I lived in Mardon Hall my first year, before moving to Trow Farm with four other friends for my second year. As my friends were all oarsmen, I became involved with the Boat Club and coxed the Eight during the winter and a Coxed Four in the summer regatta season. We won a regatta at Hereford that year. At the end of my second year, I married Teresa Kossak (Exeter 1973) and we moved into town for my last year. I graduated with a 2:1 from the Law School in 1974.
After Exeter, I attended the College of Law, was called to the Bar by the Middle Temple in 1975, and did my pupillage at 4 Pump Court. We emigrated to the USA in 1976 and have lived in and around Boston ever since. We have two children: Piers, born in 1980, and Cecily, born in 1986 in Colombia and adopted from there. I enjoy playing tennis and sailing.
I worked at Palmer & Dodge, one of the big Boston law firms from 1976 to 1981, when I joined Fiduciary Trust Company as Trust Counsel. A couple of years later, I moved to the investment side of the business and have been managing globally-invested portfolios for individuals and families for the last 30 years.
